Emphasizing the importance of research and the use of renewable energy, Professor Dr. S M Abdur Razzak, Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), stated, "If we want to strive towards technological development, we must conduct research on electricity and energy. We need to find alternative sources through research and ensure energy security for national development by utilizing them."
He further remarked, "Energy is our primary driving force. There are several indicators to identify the actual development of a country, and Per Capita Consumption of Electricity is one of the most significant. Countries that are advanced in technology, education, and research generally have a higher per capita electricity consumption."
The Vice-Chancellor made these comments as the chief guest at the prize-giving ceremony of a competition titled "PSREF Industrial Energy Challenge : Designing a Green Transition" held on Wednesday (April 29). The day-long event was jointly organized by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), the Institute of Energy and Environmental Studies (IEES) of RUET at the university’s seminar room. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr. Nurul Islam, Director of IEES and Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
In the competition, eight teams from various engineering universities presented their innovative projects regarding the use of renewable energy (green energy). Team 'Ever Fresh' emerged as the champion, while 'Opochay-Zero' and 'Greenery Grid' secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.
The event was also attended by Professor Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering; Md. Mahady Hassan Shamim, Research Associate at CPD; along with faculty members, students of RUET, and representatives of the organizers.
